Evaluation

For all our participants, being part of the creation of Doors Open has been a great experience. For the adults involved, there has been the affirmation of having their memories and opinions valued and preserved; for the young interviewers, there has been a whole range of educational benefits. Indeed, the material that opens up is so rich and the educational spin-offs so valuable that inevitably there’s a sense that there were more roads we could have gone down. We would also have liked more time for practising interviewing skills and more meetings between adults and young interviewers. In a climate of increasing concentration on subject assessment, achieving all this can be difficult. But, if you are embarking on a project like Doors Open, it is worth trying to negotiate as much time as possible .
